On September 2, 2021, a section of the railroad embankment carrying the Wethersfield Secondary Track in Cromwell was washed out from the remnants of Hurricane Ida leaving a roughly 112 foot long by up to 60-foot-deep washout along a steep railroad embankment slope. The railroad track owned by the Connecticut Department of Transportation with freight service operated by Providence & Worcester Railroad, sits on top of an embankment sandwiched between the TPC River Highlands golf course and the Connecticut River. Running parallel to the track near the washout, there is a swale adjacent to the TPC Highlands golf cart path for tournament hole number thirteen. H.W. Lochner and GeoDesign will present the findings and solution performed under this rapid response project to restore the track consisting of slope stabilization and hydraulic design
